Sharon Kinsella Reviews Making Life Better by James Vandenburg

I have run the gamut of self-help books, starting with positive thinking, colored parachutes, see it and you can be it, self-actualization and ending with a so called secret which is right back to positive thinking again. Nothing ever gave me the information I was looking for. They all started to sound like a lot of white noise.
Then I found this book "Making Life Better" by James Vandenberg. This book is highly readable, straightforward and very honest.
James Vandenberg lets us see that how we experience events is up to us and we can break out of our mold and begin to view our lives as a series of reactions that should be directed with wisdom and relate them to our own lives. We choose how we experience the moments in our lives and we should open up to reacting in ways different than those we have in the past.
His honesty is refreshing and propels you through the book as you uncover one "Aha" or as James says at the beginning of the book "Well-Duh" moment after the other. While you're reading you will find yourself pulling up examples from your past where you could have changed the outcome of a situation just by following his simple advice.
Everyone has unique opportunities to improve their lives, they just don't see them when they happen. We all have the power to change how we react to each opportunity given to us. Our power to show compassion, forgiveness, to grieve, to have joy and happiness are within us. It has nothing to do with other people and situations, just our reactions to them. Well-Duh I thought.
How we view our hopes and dreams, our plans for the future are part of the new way of thinking this books teaches us. This all makes so much sense to me. I can sincerely see how I can internalize the simple revelations I found in this book.
The writing is direct, the advice is succinct and easy to incorporate. I will not be loaning anyone this book because I want to be able to refer to it again and again. You will too. Truly one of the best self-help books I've ever seen.
You definitely should purchase this book and it will be the last self-help book you ever buy.
Buy it now for as low as $1.99 (Kindle, or $12.99 in paperback)
